The second part of You Are Here evolved over several days working with five young students from Abbeydale Grange Secondary School in Sheffield. During this period the artists and participants developed a simple seeking game in a space approximately 10 meters square and devoid of any light other than infra red traces on two digital camcorders.
The idea was to seek and locate another participant, then pass the camera on to that person - continue search, locate and repeat
Initially the game elicited ritual behaviours, heightened by the excitement of seeking and finding others in total darkness. As the procedural nature of the game gradually evolved, the instructions became more demanding and explicit, whereby participants were asked to work in total silence, over an indeterminate period of time.
Isolated from familiar environments and the city itself, the young participants focused on the procedural aspects of the interaction between each other and an environment at once removed yet at the same time all pervasive.
Two opposing screens display the synchronised material content from the 'night-shot' recordings. Shifting traces of light emerge as figures approach and recede to darkness.
